This wonderful handmade Mahogany Boat Shuttle was made by my husband in our small woodshop in the woods on our property in the PNW.  This is Khaya Mahogany (quartersawn with ribbon grain), a beautiful hardwood species from equatorial West Africa and is considered an exotic wood. Heartwood color is variable, ranging from a very pale pink to a deeper reddish brown, sometimes with streaks of medium to dark reddish brown. The color tends to darken with age.

These are side-delivery boat shuttles and use Schacht 4 inch bobbins that spin freely on a brass, spring-loaded rod. The yarn feeds off the side of the bobbins and out a generous slot in the side of the shuttle. Finished size is 12 inches X 1-3/4 inches wide at the widest part and 1-1/4 inches tall. This boat shuttle weighs 4.9 oz.

My husband spends hours in his woodshop cutting, sanding and shaping with these wonderful pieces of wood.  I love this particular shape of boat shuttle for my weaving. It fits my hands and zips across the shed easily. The curved ends are easy to grab when it arrives on the other side. We've carefully sanded and finished with steel wool in between coats of danish oil so it's lovely soft and smooth with no chance of it catching on your beloved weavings.

These photos show the exact shuttle you'll receive. I photograph each one individually.

I do my best to accurately photograph my yarn but monitors may differ. All my photos are taken outside in natural light. Please contact me with any questions before you purchase.
