This wonderful handmade Kamani Orifice Hook for Spinning Wheels was hand turned by my husband on his lathe from reclaimed wood. The hook itself is bronze and the eye at the top is brass. 

Kamani grows near the shore, and reaches heights of 40 to 60 feet, diameters up to 36 inches.The wood of a kamani tree has a lustrous texture that ages to a reddish brown with a tightly interlocked grain. It is used for paneling, furniture, cabinetry and boat building. Kamani wood is often used for food platters and bowls and in crafting and carving.
 
This hook came from a piece of wood from a visit to our good friend who lives in upcountry Maui. He's an amazing old native hawaiian......in his late 70's and has tons of wonderful stories of the old days on the islands. I could sit at his knee and listen for hours. His woodworking skills and his beautiful creations take my breath away! Each year we make sure we take the time to go and visit and gather up some beautiful wood to bring home with us. My sweet husband spends hours in his woodshop turning and carving with these precious "scraps". The deep rich red of this wonderful spinning tool is stunning. And I love how the shape of his hooks fit so nicely in my hand and conveniently hang on my wheel and are ready whenever needed.

I've added a hanger of various gemstones and beads. You can choose between the Earth Bead Collection which includes gorgeous earth tone gemstones and beads including several Jasper stones, Jade, Wood and Tibetan Agate or the Ocean Bead Collection which includes gemstones and beads in colors of the sea including Russian Amazonite, Lapis, Turquoise, Lavenderite, African Opal, Jade, Amethyst, Chrysocolla and Apatite. Hang your Orifice Hook on your wheel and keep it handy and adorn your wheel at the same time. 

Finished size for the hook itself is 6 3/4 inches long x 1 1/2 inches wide....this particular hook has a bend near the end. I personally prefer this bend on my own hooks as it's easier to use to grab my leader. The beaded hanger can be removed if needed with the clasp at the top and adds an additional 7 inches to the overall length. The photos show the exact wood hook you'll receive but here will be some variance in the beads as is the nature of the stones but all are beautiful pieces of earth/sea colors.
