This bowl was lovingly made from a beautiful piece of Silver Birch from a tree over on Whidbey Island that had been cut down due to safety issues. We were gifted 3 small logs of this wood. Birch is known for it's lovely white bark but once we cut into the small log we discovered amazing spalting in the wood and decided to turn a piece of wood destined for their firewood pile instead into a beautiful piece of art!  Spalting is any form of wood coloration caused by a fungus. Though it's a marking usually found in dead trees, it can also occur in living trees under stress. The unique coloration and patterns of spalted wood are beautiful and one of a kind, and sought after by bowl collectors. Please enjoy the organic vibe of this bowl. These photos show the exact bowl you'll receive. I photograph each one individually.

Bring a rustic piece of nature and the forests of the PNW into your home! This Spalted Birch bowl is handmade by my husband in his woodshop or sitting outside in our forest carving, sanding, cleaning and finishing.

All of our wood pieces are hand carved or hand turned and may be perfectly “imperfect” which is exactly what we love about them. Every piece is unique and no two will ever be alike. Different woods make them look even more unique.
