This wonderful handmade Spalted Maple Wood Boat Shuttle was made by my husband from beautiful pieces of a diseased tree that was gifted to us by a dear friend. Spalting is a form of wood coloration caused by fungi and can be amazingly complex and beautiful. It's often found in dead trees, but can also occur in living trees under stress. The unique coloration and patterns of spalted wood are highly sought after by woodworkers.

My sweet husband spends hours in his woodshop cutting, sanding and shaping with these precious pieces of wood....giving them new life. This particular piece of spalted maple has some amazing black lines through the wood and and a soft golden color and is gorgeous!I love this particular shape of boat shuttle for my weaving. It fits my hands and zips across the shed easily. The curved ends are easy to grab when it arrives on the other side. We've carefully sanded and finished with steel wool in between coats of danish oil so it's lovely soft and smooth with no chance of it catching on your beloved weavings. Finished size is 13" X 1-5/8" wide at the widest part. The tensioned rod is brass and holds a 4" Schacht bobbin.

I do my best to accurately photograph my yarn but monitors may differ. All my photos are taken outside in natural light. Please contact me with any questions before you purchase.
